Kurt Schneiderman: The Subversive Theatre Collective

We believe that theatre can serve a higher purpose than simply amusing the affluent elite. Some of us believe it is theatre's duty not to lull people to sleep, but to wake them up; not to leave audiences feeling everything is "hunky dory," but to raise awareness, provoke, challenge, empower, incense, inspire, and even agitate! 3/1/10 Harvest
Director Kurt Schneiderman and actors Dacia Dunnigan and Hasheen DeBerry of Subversive Theatre Collective's production of Langston Hughes' play HARVEST playing at the Manny Fried Playhouse from February 26th - March 20th. HARVEST is the fourth installment of Subversive Theatre's annual "Workers' Power Play Series" that highlights plays speaking to the struggles of working people and labor organizations. HARVEST tells the tale of the struggle to organize Black, white, and Mexican migrant farm workers in the 1930. Our rendition also weaves in several of Langston Hughes' more radical poems as well as many militant union songs of the Great Depression.
